Horse Mounted Patrol

The Metro Police Department Horse Mounted Patrol Unit was
formed in May 1998 and has gone through extensive training for several
months. The training consists of crowd control tactics, formation riding,
police tactics, and many other things. At present the patrol is made up
of 8 Tennessee Walking Horses which were donated by the Walking Horse
industry. The Unit is stabled at Ellington Agricultural Center and visitors
are always welcome.
The Horse Mounted Patrol Unit's duties are pedestrian traffic control for large events and other areas where there is a high volume of pedestrian traffic. We also do demonstrations for schools, and other groups. Be sure to see us at the Tennessee Titans games and all around Nashville.
The Horse Mounted Patrol Unit has just returned from The
National Mounted Police Training seminar and competition . We are proud
to report that one of our horses (Solidarity's Smoking Joe) was 8th place
over all with two other horses (Secret's Ambassador and Edge to Edge)
finishing in the top 25. The Mounted Patrol has also been to the Walking
Horse National Celebration where we represented the City of Nashville.
After giving a short demonstration, we were rewarded with a standing ovation
by 24,000 people.
The telephone number of the Horse Mounted Patrol is (615) 834-8545.
