The outstanding police work of East Precinct Officer Jamie King continued Wednesday night with the arrest of two people following a police pursuit. Officer King’s actions the evening before, led to the arrest of a 15-year-old runaway who carjacked a Tennessee Department of Corrections employee.
On Wednesday, Officer King stopped the driver of a 1989 Ford LTD at 8:45 p.m. for reckless driving on Dickerson Pike near Donald Street. The vehicle was speeding and nearly hit several cars before skidding out of control and coming to a stop. As King got out of his police car, the driver of the LTD sped away. King pursued the car onto I-65 North. The driver exited at Old Hickory Boulevard and traveled onto Gallatin Pike. A police helicopter joined the pursuit at that point, allowing ground units to back off.
As the LTD was being monitored from the air, it rear-ended a car on Gallatin Pike near Inglewood. The driver, John Lindsley Drake, 41, of Nashville, and his passenger, Tammara Sue Tillis, 34, of Oak Ridge, got out of the car and fled on foot. Both suspects were apprehended after the helicopter pilot pointed out their positions to officers on the ground.
Drake is charged with felony drug possession, reckless driving, driving on a suspended license, and evading arrest. He had burglary tools in his vehicle along with crack cocaine on his person. He also had two outstanding warrants from Williamson County for a probation violation and failure to appear. Drake has a lengthy arrest history including assault and drug-related charges dating back to 1999.
Tillis is charged with evading arrest and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. A crack pipe was found in the vehicle.
Both suspects were treated for minor injuries caused by the accident. The driver of the vehicle they struck declined medical treatment.
