Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday nights, resulted in 41 arrests involving seven felonies and 39 misdemeanor charges. Eight outstanding warrants were served. Seizures included 5 grams of marijuana, and 22.6 grams of cocaine.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday night’s enforcement consisted of 13 SID detectives and nine patrol officers. Areas targeted were Buchanan Street, Jefferson Street, Jo Johnston Avenue, Clifton Street, the Edgehill area, the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Trimble Bottoms, Murfreesboro Road, Thompson Lane, Harding Place, and Nolensville Road.

Saturday night’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were the James Cayce public housing development, North 2nd Street, North 1st Street and Dickerson Road, Dellway Villa, Gallatin Pike, Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, 16th Avenue North and Buchanan Street, 11th Avenue North and Jefferson Street, 10th Avenue North and Jackson Street, and 6th Avenue North and Garfield Street.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has now netted 734 arrests involving 803 misdemeanor charges, 157 felony charges and 198 outstanding warrants.
