
The Metropolitan Police Department’s new armored rescue vehicle, acquired through a $250,000 Department of Homeland Security federal grant, will be on display tomorrow (Friday) at 8 a.m. in the parking lot of the North Precinct at 2231 26th Avenue North. Mayor Purcell and Chief Serpas will on the lot at 8 a.m. to view the vehicle and its features.
The armored rescue vehicle is equipped with thermal imaging equipment, weapons of mass destruction detection equipment, a radiological detection package, and explosive detection equipment. It is the only law enforcement vehicle of its kind in Middle Tennessee and replaces the department’s 25-year-old armored vehicle.

At 9 a.m., Chief Serpas, United States Attorney Craig Morford, and District Attorney General Torry Johnson will participate in a news conference regarding the Project Safe Neighborhood gun prosecution initiative. More than 1400 guns seized or recovered by the police department will be on display. The weapons will be taken to a destruction facility after the news conference.
