West Precinct Officer Shane Shetler stopped to aid a woman who flagged him down in the 1600 block of Patterson Street Monday at 9:45 a.m. The woman was injured and bleeding from wounds on her face and scalp. She told Officer Shetler her boyfriend, Orlando Bass, hit her several times after an argument and had even pulled out some of her hair.
Officer Shetler saw Bass, 26, of St. Louis Street, in a nearby alley and chased him on foot. After a brief pursuit, Officer Shetler took Bass into custody on State Street.
Bass is charged with assault, theft of property for stealing his girlfriends’ car, and evading arrest. Officer Shetler also served Bass with an outstanding assault warrant. Bass is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond.
Orlando Bass has a lengthy arrest history which includes several charges for violent offenses.
