FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 16, 2007

Officers at Hunters Lane High School this afternoon arrested a 17-year-old student for possession of cocaine for resale after crack weighing more than two ounces was found in a locker he frequented.

A school system staff member checked the locker Tuesday after seeing that its door was standing open. Inside were the cocaine, a book bag, and more than $130 in change.

The 11th grader was seen at the locker, which is assigned to a student currently on suspension, by school staff on Tuesday morning. The student apparently left the building and could not be found after the cocaine was discovered. He returned to school today and was taken into custody.

The teenager denied bringing the cocaine to school, but it was clear to officers that he had knowledge of it. The crack discovered in the locker has an estimated street value of $2,000.
