
South Precinct detectives late last night arrested the man suspected of killing 24-year-old Y’R Market clerk Rajwinder Grewal during a robbery at the store on August 8, 2006.
Brandon Keith Johnson, 21, of Baldwin Court, was identified as a result of an investigation involving South Precinct detectives and investigators from the Cold Case Unit.
On the afternoon of the robbery, a man armed with a pistol entered the Y’R Market at 167 Lafayette Street and demanded money. Grewal complied with the robber’s demands and handed over an estimated $200 dollars cash. According to witnesses, the suspect fired at Grewal as he exited the store. Grewal, a co-owner of the market, sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Johnson is charged with criminal homicide and especially aggravated robbery. He is being held in lieu of $225,000 bond.
