Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening resulted in 38 arrests involving 14 felonies, 42 misdemeanors, and nine outstanding warrants. Seized were four grams of marijuana, 22.5 grams of cocaine, 20 Soma pills, three weapons, and $549 cash.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of 19 SID detectives and three patrol officers. Areas targeted were 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, 16th Avenue North at Buchanan Street, 12th Avenue North, Cephas Street, Brick Church Pike at Westchester Drive and at Village Trail, Rainwood Drive, Madison Park, and State Route 45 at Myatt Drive.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives, and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were Two Rivers Parkway, University Court, J.C. Napier Court, Harding Place at Nolensville Pike and at Linbar Drive, and Nolensville Pike at Elysian Fields Road.

In 2007 Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 727 arrests on 133 felony charges and 792 misdemeanor charges, 183 drug seizures, 17 gun seizures, the service of 151 outstanding warrants, 224 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 1,890 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
