Chief Ronal Serpas and Sheriff Daron Hall are once again hosting the Morning Star Sanctuary Golf Classic, which this year will benefit both the domestic violence shelter and Officer Danita Marsh, who was shot and paralyzed last October while assisting a domestic violence victim.
The tournament will be held on Thursday, July 12, at Hermitage Golf Course. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. There will be a putting contest at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 1:30 p.m. The fee for individual players is $200. Corporate packages and sponsorships are also available.
Proceeds from the golf tournament will help support Officer Marsh and her efforts to regain some of life’s basic choices, such as long-term accessible housing and the freedom to manage her own transportation. Proceeds will also help fund the work of Morning Star Sanctuary, which provides a confidential shelter in a home-like environment to women and their children who have fled from domestic violence and abusive relationships. The shelter also makes available 24-hour crisis line counseling, legal advocacy, individual adult and children’s counseling, weekly support groups, and a mentoring program.
As her recovery from the devastating gunshot wounds continues, Officer Marsh is planning on being at the golf course on the day of the tournament to assist with registration.
