East Precinct Officer Gigger Nipper has been decommissioned following his arrest late this afternoon in Robertson County on charges of driving while under the influence of an intoxicant and possession of a firearm while under the influence.
Nipper, 54, an 18-year Metro Police Department veteran, was traveling in uniform in his personal vehicle and was returning home from an off-duty job when he was arrested by the Tennessee Highway Patrol at the intersection of Highways 52 and 31. Witnesses had reported that the Nissan automobile Nipper was driving was weaving on the roadway and, at one point, had actually run off the road.
There is no evidence that Nipper had been drinking. It is suspected that medication he took for back pain impacted his driving ability. Nipper did consent to giving a blood sample at a Robertson County medical facility.
Officer Nipper will be assigned to desk duty pending an administrative Metro Police Department investigation.
