Persons coming downtown tomorrow to partake in the city’s 4th of July festivities are encouraged to arrive early, seek legal parking, and be aware of the behavior of persons around them.
More than 100 officers will be working in the Riverfront Park and downtown areas Wednesday to ensure public safety and keep traffic moving. Officers will quickly respond to any person causing a disruption. Citizens seeing suspicious or disruptive behavior are urged to report it to a nearby officer.
Citizens are reminded that parking on the shoulders of the interstate system to watch the fireworks display is prohibited. Stopping on the interstate without a legitimate reason is inherently dangerous. Motorists who do so are subject to being ticketed. Cars left abandoned on the interstate will be towed.
Throughout the day Wednesday, additional officers being paid through a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office will be on the lookout for impaired or aggressive drivers. They will focus their attention on the interstate system and roadways surrounding area lakes and marinas. Sobriety checkpoints are planned for tomorrow on Harding Place near McGavock Pike and on Natchez Trace near West End Avenue.
The police department reminds Nashvillians that it is illegal to sell at retail, possess or use fireworks in Davidson County, with the exception of properly permitted public displays. Officers will take neighborhood fireworks complaints seriously. Violations could result in the issuance of misdemeanor citations and the confiscation of fireworks.
