Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday afternoon and evening, resulted in 14 arrests involving 14 misdemeanors, five felonies, and two outstanding warrants. Seized were 15 grams of cocaine, 50 various pills, and one weapon.

At least once a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of 17 SID detectives and seven patrol officers. Areas targeted include the Buchanan street area, 23rd Avenue North at Osage Street, 6th Avenue North at Garfield Street, the Edgehill public housing development, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike, Apache Trail, Haywood Lane, Tampa Drive, Old Hickory Boulevard at Gallatin Pike, Madison Park, and Rio Vista Drive.

In 2007 the Metropolitan Police Department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has resulted in 933 arrests involving 973 misdemeanor charges, 186 felony charges, and 188 outstanding warrants.
