Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

July 19, 2007

A man wanted for bank robbery in New York walked up to a Metro police officer downtown this afternoon and surrendered.

Ricky Massey, 46, approached Officer Ada Thaxter, who was working an off-duty job at 6th Avenue North & Commerce Street, and said he was wanted in connection with last Friday’s robbery of a bank in Saratoga Springs, New York. Thaxter detained Massey and, during a search, recovered more than $4,000 cash.

Massey, who is from Saratoga Springs, said he came to Nashville on a Greyhound bus. He was transported to General Hospital after telling officers that he felt sick. An arrest warrant charging Massey with being a fugitive from justice is being obtained by the FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force. Massey will be booked on that warrant upon his discharge from the hospital.
