
Hermitage Precinct detectives are working to identify a suspect in Monday night’s stabbing death of Evan Craig Ellis, 23, who was homeless.
Ellis walked through a hole in the fence at the corner of 1st Avenue South and Carroll Street when witnesses say he and the suspect got into a fight. Ellis was stabbed during the struggle and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The suspect is described as a black man, also believed to be homeless, in his early 40s with a 1”-2” unkempt afro hairstyle and a graying beard. He is approximately 5’9” tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He was wearing a white collared shirt with a green design and black jeans.
Detectives are also working to identify and locate a witness who attempted to help Ellis during the fight.
