FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 9, 2007

The FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force and the police department’s Special Response Team this morning arrested suspected bank robber Michael Morrison on Charlotte Avenue.

Morrison, 53, of 801 Crescent Hill Road, is charged with robbing Bank of America’s 1634 Church Street branch at 12:30 p.m. on July 19. The robber handed a teller a robbery demand note and verbally said, “Just give me money or I will kill you or someone in the bank.” The teller, in fear, provided cash from a bank drawer and the robber fled.

A reenactment of the robbery, complete with bank surveillance photos, was broadcast on NewsChannel 5’s Crime Stoppers segment Tuesday night. By yesterday morning, Crime Stoppers had received a number of credible tips that led to the identification of Morrison as the robber and his location.

Morrison is charged federally with bank robbery and is in federal custody.
