The man shot to death at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday outside his apartment in the Bavaria complex at 4501 Packard Drive is identified as David T. Martin, 27.

Martin and a friend had just arrived in the complex and were walking to Martin’s apartment when they were approached by a man near the parking lot who asked to use a phone. As Martin and his friend entered the apartment, the man pulled a gun and demanded their money. After robbing the two, the suspect left the apartment. Martin quickly retrieved a gun with the intention of pursuing the robber. As he opened the apartment door to head out, the suspect fired a shot. Martin was hit and pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The suspect is described as a young black man, approximately 5’9” tall, with a slender build. He was wearing a gray hoodie.

Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME or South Precinct Investigations at 862-7763.
