
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons and evenings, resulted in 42 arrests involving three felonies, 51 misdemeanors, and five outstanding warrants. Seized were 14.2 grams of marijuana, 3.5 grams of cocaine, and three weapons.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Thursday’s enforcement consisted of eleven SID detectives and four patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, Harding Place, Haywood Lane, Nolensville Pike, Richards Road, Tampa Drive, and Paragon Mills Road.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives, five patrol officers, and one canine unit. Areas targeted were the Tennessee State Fairgrounds and Harding Place. Saturday’s enforcement consisted of 13 SID detectives, six patrol officers, and three canine units at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Tennessee State Fairgrounds, Clarksville Pike at Dr. D.B. Todd Boulevard, and North 1st Street.
So far this year, the police department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 1,375 arrests involving 1,515 misdemeanor charges, 268 felony charges, and 270 outstanding warrants.
