FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

North Precinct detectives this afternoon charged Joshua J. Bond with criminal homicide for Thursday night’s shooting death of Shop-N-Save Market owner Gene Kim.

Bond, 19, of 1719 River Drive, surrendered himself at the North Precinct this afternoon after hearing that officers were looking for him in connection with the homicide. He declined to answer detectives’ questions about the case.

“Bond is behind bars thanks to the outstanding police work of North Precinct Detectives Cody O’Quinn, Danny Satterfield, and their colleagues, which was aided greatly by tips and information from persons in the community,” Chief Ronal Serpas said.

Kim, 52, was gunned down behind the store counter seconds after the suspect, identified as Bond, entered the building. Detectives believe the motive stems from Kim’s confrontation with Bond over suspected shoplifting about an hour before the murder.
