SWAT officers assigned to the police department’s Special Response Team today arrested fugitive Timothy Lyons, who was added to the TBI’s Ten Most Wanted list Tuesday.
SRT and East Precinct officers went to 615-A South 6th Street in the James Cayce public housing development after receiving a tip that Lyons was inside. The female resident said her boyfriend “Chris” was the only other person there. Moments later, Lyons came downstairs and surrendered. Lyons and the woman were alone in the apartment.
Lyons is named in a Davidson County Grand Jury indictment charging attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and felony reckless endangerment. Lyons, while in a car, is alleged to have opened fire on two women traveling on 11th Avenue North near Clay Street on the afternoon of March 21st. One of the women, Teresa Crenshaw, 27, was shot in the back and right arm. Pedestrian Antwan Bowers, 20, was hit in his right shoulder and left leg. The gunfire also struck two homes.
Officers had been looking to arrest Lyons since late March. He was paroled from the state prison system last November after serving two years of a nine-year sentence for robbery and kidnapping convictions. A parole violation warrant was issued for Lyons’ arrest in April.
