An immigration hold has been placed on Lorenzo Hernandez Santiz following his arrest Sunday for vehicular homicide.
Santiz, 21, who also goes by the name Jorge Hernandez, is suspected of speeding and being under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of his car at 2:10 a.m. Sunday on the ramp from I-440 West to I-40. The car ran off the roadway, collided with a utility pole, and rolled several times before coming to a final rest. The passenger in the car, who has now been identified as Nicolas Hernandez, 27, of Waikiki Boulevard in Antioch, died at the scene.
Santiz, who admitted to drinking four beers prior to the crash, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment. He was discharged from the hospital Sunday afternoon and arrested. He is alleged to have illegally entered the United States from Mexico and his being held without bond.
This is Santiz’s first Nashville arrest of 2007. He was arrested three times in 2006 on a variety of charges, including illegal alcohol consumption, unlawful gun possession, leaving the scene of an accident, DUI, escape, driving without a license, and criminal impersonation.
