Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons and evenings, resulted in 40 arrests involving five felonies, 50 misdemeanors, and six outstanding warrants. Seized were 83.6 grams of marijuana, .2 grams of cocaine, and 21 Ecstasy pills.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives, five patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were the Madison area, Merry Street, Edgehill Avenue, and Harding Place.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and three patrol officers. Areas targeted were Merry Street, 25th Avenue North at Batavia Street, Tampa Drive, Paragon Mills Road, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike, Gallatin Pike at Old Hickory Boulevard, and Rio Vista Drive.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of nine SID detectives and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were Merry Street, 25th Avenue North at Batavia Street, Tampa Drive, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike, Brick Church Pike at Trinity Lane, County Hospital Road, Clarksville Pike at Kings Lane, and Dickerson Pike at Grace Street.

So far this year, the police department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 1,603 arrests involving 1,764 misdemeanor charges, 301 felony charges, and 305 outstanding warrants.
