Friends of Nashville community leader Francis Guess have posted a $15,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for brutally beating and robbing Guess outside his Hydes Ferry Road home on the night of October 8.
The robber struck Guess, 61, on the head with a lawnmower blade at 10:45 p.m., moments after Guess pulled into his driveway and got out of his car. The suspect demanded Guess’ wallet. Guess threw money at the robber, after which he again struck Guess on the head with the mower blade and fled the scene.
Guess, although bleeding profusely, made it inside his home and called 911. He was admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and has since been released.
In announcing the reward, businessman and restaurateur David Swett, Sr., said, “Francis Guess is a true asset to our great city and has worked very hard over many years to build up and empower people of all races. The attack on him was cowardly and reprehensible. His friends and the police department need the community’s help to identify the person responsible and bring him to justice. The $15,000 reward should be a significant incentive to encourage someone to come forward.”
Anyone with information on the person or persons involved in attacking Francis Guess is urged to contact North Precinct Investigations at 862-7901 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
