Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday resulted in 51 arrests involving nine felonies, 54 misdemeanors, and eight outstanding warrants. Seized were over two pounds of marijuana and 14.9 grams of cocaine.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives, six patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were Merry Street, 25th Avenue North at Batavia Street, the J.C. Napier public housing development, the 200 block of Tampa Drive, the 200 block of Paragon Mills Road, Harding Place, and Nolensville Pike.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and three patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Madison area, North 2nd Street, Ramsey Street, Harding Place, Antioch Pike, and Nolensville Pike.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were the James Cayce public housing development, Murfreesboro Pike, and Harding Place near I-24.
So far this year, the police department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 1,654 arrests involving 1,818 misdemeanor charges, 310 felony charges, and 313 outstanding warrants.
