
Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday resulted in 51 arrests involving four felonies, 58 misdemeanors, and three outstanding warrants. Seized were 22.7 grams of marijuana, 8.1 grams of cocaine, and three weapons.
At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.
Friday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were Porter Road, Straightway Avenue, Riverside Drive, Gallatin Pike, Chester Avenue, Brick Church Pike, Westchester Drive, Moorewood Drive, Ewing Drive, Harding Place, Paragon Mills, Apache Trail, Richards Road, Antioch Pike, Wallace Road, and 5th Avenue North at Garfield Street.
Saturday’s enforcement consisted of 12 SID detectives, four patrol officers, and three canine units. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Trimble Bottoms, 28th Avenue North at Clifton Avenue, 40th Avenue North at Indiana Avenue, Merry Street, Harding Place, and Nolensville Pike.
Sunday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives and six patrol officers. Areas targeted were Madison and East Nashville.
So far this year, the police department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 1,824 arrests involving 2,021 misdemeanor charges, 339 felony charges, and 335 outstanding warrants.
