Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

November 15, 2007

Officers and horses from the police department’s Mounted Patrol will be in the parking lot of the Nashville Zoo Saturday and Sunday to greet zoo visitors and receive new, unwrapped toys for the department’s annual Christmas Basket Program.

The mounted team will collect the toys from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. both days and will offer a complimentary Nashville Zoo admission ticket for each new toy donated. Zoo tickets can be used over the weekend or any other time during normal zoo hours through the end of 2007.

Officers will also accept letters children have written to Santa Claus. Delivery to the North Pole is guaranteed in time for Christmas.

“I am sincerely grateful to the Nashville Zoo for once again partnering with us to ensure that hundreds of underprivileged children have a meaningful Christmas,” Chief Ronal Serpas said.

The police department’s annual Christmas Basket Program, now in its 46th year, serves hundreds of men, women, and children comprising more than 200 families. Officers will deliver toys and food baskets to those families on Christmas Eve morning.

*The Nashville Zoo is located at 3777 Nolensville Pike and is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. The zoo’s gift shop will also be accepting donated toys for the Christmas Basket Program during the month of December.
