Hermitage Precinct Officer Andy Elkins’ quick response to a concerned citizen’s call Monday afternoon led to the arrest of two teenagers armed with a semi-automatic pistol.
The teens, both students at McGavock High School, were parked in a 1992 Lexus in the 600 block of Lawrence Street near Donelson Avenue in Old Hickory when they were overheard making threatening statements on a cell phone at 1:30 p.m.
Officer Elkins arrived within minutes. The front seat passenger, Michael Sowell, 18, of Islandia Court, had the weapon in his hand. Elkins ordered Sowell out of the Lexus and took him into custody without incident. Sowell is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and unlawful weapon possession.
The 17-year-old driver was charged in juvenile court with unlawful weapon possession.
