In a continuing effort to dry up the market for stolen merchandise, North Precinct detectives Monday arrested Lotfy Issa, the owner of Jack’s Discount Tobacco store at 338 East Old Hickory Boulevard.
Issa, 34, bought what was represented as stolen goods from an undercover police operative on three separate occasions at his store this month.
Detectives targeted Issa after learning that he was buying stolen merchandise at his store. Search warrants were executed on the business just after an undercover operative sold Issa over $1,000 worth of new power tools for $150 cash, drinks, and a pack of cigarettes.
As a result of search warrants executed at the store and Issa’s home on Merritt Street, over $58,000 cash, two weapons, power tools, electronics, and heavy equipment were seized. All of the items sold to Issa were recovered.
Issa is charged with two counts of attempted theft of property. He is free on $10,000 bond.
