Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday resulted in 58 arrests involving six felonies, 55 misdemeanors, and ten outstanding warrants. Seized were 42.7 grams of marijuana, .2 grams of cocaine, eleven pills, and three weapons.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crimes and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of eight SID detectives, six patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were University Court, Thompson Place, Murfreesboro Pike, Trimble Bottoms, the Edgehill Avenue area, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike, Haywood Lane, and Antioch Pike.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives, four patrol officers, and two canine units. Areas targeted were the Madison area, 27th Avenue North, Meharry Boulevard, Harding Place, Linbar Drive, Nolensville Pike, Old Hickory Boulevard, Antioch Pike, Richards Road, and 8th and 10th Avenues North at Jefferson Street.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives and five patrol officers. Areas targeted were the Madison area, Dickerson Pike, and Gallatin Pike.

So far this year, the police department’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative has netted 1,989 arrests involving 2,194 misdemeanor charges, 361 felony charges, and 362 outstanding warrants.
