Coordinated efforts between Hermitage Precinct officers, Canine, and Aviation Units led to the arrest Monday of aggravated burglary suspect Shawn Michael Tate, 19, of Netherlands Drive.
An alarm sounded at a Brookside Drive home at 9:40 a.m. Undercover officers already in the area due to an increase in burglaries quickly responded, but the suspect had fled on foot.
Tate continued to burglarize homes in the area. At noon, a citizen reported seeing Tate with a rifle near Waynewood Lane. Four area schools were placed in lock down as a precaution. Tate was in possession of a BB gun and a handgun, both stolen, when he was apprehended at 1:30 p.m.
Tate is charged with three counts of aggravated burglary, but is a potential suspect in 20-30 additional burglaries. He is being held in lieu of $200,000 bond. Tate was on probation for a June aggravated burglary conviction.
