FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 25, 2008

The police department’s investigation into cockfighting behind a residence in South Nashville has resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant against a man who is alleged to have allowed the illegal activity.

Mauricio G. Mondragon, 30, a native of Mexico, was the tenant at 14690 Old Hickory Boulevard where South Precinct officers found cockfighting taking place on the afternoon of January 13. A crowd estimated at 50 to 60 persons fled from the immediate area after realizing that police were on the property. A total of 34 roosters were recovered, including two that were dead at the scene and two that had to be euthanized due to their injuries.

Specialized Investigations Division Detective Pete Dusche determined that Mondragon permitted cockfighting in his backyard. Cockfighting paraphernalia was found inside the home during the execution of a search warrant.

Mondragon has not returned to the home and efforts to arrest him on the misdemeanor cockfighting warrant have been unsuccessful thus far. Anyone knowing Mondragon’s whereabouts is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
