Crash Investigation Unit officers are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a hit and run driver involved in a fatal accident December 19 on Rosa L. Parks Boulevard at the I-65 exit ramp.

The investigation indicates the driver of a Dodge Neon was entering Rosa L. Parks Boulevard from the I-65 South ramp, ran a flashing red light, and struck a northbound 1998 gold Infinity driven by Bennett Baldwin, 64, of Collins Road, at 5:30 a.m.

The front seat passenger in the Neon, Anita Crawford, 40, of Burns Street, was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died. Baldwin was transported to Baptist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Evidence of alcohol was found inside the Neon. Crawford was the registered owner of the Dodge.

The hit and run driver is described only as a black man wearing a jacket, stocking cap, and long pants who fled on foot toward Dominican Drive immediately after the accident. Anyone with information concerning the driver is urged to contact the Crash Investigation Unit at 862-7738.
