Fourteen additional officers, who are being paid through a Governor’s Highway Safety Office grant, will be on the streets of Nashville Monday looking for St. Patrick’s Day drunk or impaired drivers.
St. Patrick’s Day celebrations and parties are oftentimes accompanied by excessive drinking. On March 17, 2007, Metro officers charged 25 persons with DUI.
“Drunk or impaired drivers put Nashville’s families at extreme risk, and officers will be doing their best to get them off our streets,” Chief Ronal Serpas said. “I strongly encourage persons attending St. Patrick’s Day celebrations to avoid a trip to jail by making arrangements for a designated driver or using Sheriff Hall’s Sober Ride Program.”
The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office is offering free rides between 10 p.m. Monday and 3 a.m. Tuesday to persons who call 862-RIDE (7433).
