The gunman believed responsible for Wednesday night’s shooting death of 21-year-old Stephen Dejuan Johnson, who was fatally wounded in the head as the car in which he was riding was fired upon while traveling on University Court, is in custody.

Travis Taylor, 20, of University Court, surrendered himself Friday night at the Criminal Justice Center. During an interview with Hermitage Precinct Detective Johnny Crumby, Taylor said he was shooting dice when a car stopped and the front seat passenger fired several shots at the crowd. Taylor said he fired shots at the car as it drove away.

Taylor, who is charged with criminal homicide and attempted criminal homicide, is being held without bond.

At the time of the shooting, Taylor was free on $1,000 bond stemming from a February 22 domestic assault arrest. He has convictions for cocaine possession, trespassing, and evading arrest.
