Last weekend’s Operation Safer Streets gang enforcement initiative, which took place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, resulted in 83 arrests involving 93 misdemeanors, five felonies, and eleven outstanding warrants. Seized were 120 grams of marijuana, .1 grams of cocaine, three weapons, and ten various pills.

At least three times a week, officers and supervisors representing each of the six precincts and the Specialized Investigations Division (SID) partner together to implement strategies to combat gang crime and activities in various areas of Nashville.

Friday’s enforcement consisted of seven SID detectives, 25 patrol officers, and one canine unit. Areas targeted were the James Cayce public housing development, the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Fairfield Avenue, Edgehill Avenue, 8th, 11th and 12th Avenues South, Nolensville Pike, Harding Place, Tampa Drive, Wallace Road, Main Street, Shelby Avenue, South 10th Street, Buchanan Street, Ed Temple Boulevard, Dr. Walter S. Davis Boulevard, Jefferson Street, Trinity Lane, Clarksville Pike, Whites Creek Pike, Buena Vista Pike, Packard Drive, Tusculum Road, McMurray Drive, Edmondson Pike, Old Hickory Boulevard, Bell Road, and Zermatt Avenue.

Saturday’s enforcement consisted of five SID detectives and 31 patrol officers. Areas targeted were Old Hickory Boulevard, the Cheatham Place public housing development, Haywood Lane, Madison Park, Gallatin Pike, Dickerson Pike, Cleveland Street, Grace Street, Harding Place, Nolensville Pike, Paragon Mills Road, and Harding Place.

Sunday’s enforcement consisted of six SID detectives and nine patrol officers. Areas targeted were the J.C. Napier public housing development, University Court, Murfreesboro Pike, Nolensville Pike, the 200 block of Tampa Drive, and Harding Place.

So far this year, Operation Safer Streets has resulted in 766 arrests on 90 felony charges and 820 misdemeanor charges, 108 drug seizures, nine gun seizures, the service of 130 outstanding warrants, 138 field interviews of persons believed to have gang knowledge, and 1,840 traffic stops in areas with a gang presence.
