A citizen’s tip led to Wednesday afternoon’s arrest of a suspected copper thief. Leon Wilson, 48, was seen inside a fenced-in area stealing a copper coil evaporator from an air conditioning unit at 635 7th Avenue South.

Wilson fled on foot, but was quickly captured by Central Precinct Officer David Wright who spotted him nearby trying to hide in tall grass. Wilson had a black garbage bag with a second evaporator and loose copper tubing. He was also in possession of burglary tools and illegal drug paraphernalia.
