FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 15, 2008

Two teenagers are confined at the Juvenile Detention Center in connection with Tuesday evening’s robbery of a woman who was walking through Printer’s Alley downtown.

Deviyon Smith, 16, of Blank Street, and Antonio Peebles, 15, of Glenview Drive, are both charged with aggravated robbery.

As the 35-year-old victim entered Printer’s Alley from Union Street at 7 p.m., she was hit over the head with a PVC pipe. She then felt someone trying to grab her laptop computer case. The victim dropped her purse and told the suspects to “take it.”

A witness who saw the robbery occur called police and officers quickly flooded the area. Detective Robert Anderson saw two individuals who matched the suspects’ descriptions walking on Church Street. He gave chase and the two ran into a parking garage. Smith was apprehended a short time later by Officers Deniz Ismailovic and Tiffany Head on Charlotte Avenue near 6th Avenue North. Peebles was arrested by Officer Christopher Stafford at an MTA bus bench on James Robertson Parkway. Both teenagers were in possession of items belonging to the robbery victim.

The robbery victim was treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a laceration to her head caused by the pipe.
