FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 28, 2008

East Precinct detectives are investigating Saturday night’s shooting death of armed robbery suspect Devin S. Hogan as a justifiable homicide.

Hogan, 20, of Teal Avenue in Memphis, and an accomplice entered Sinkers Wine & Spirits at 3304 Gallatin Pike at 10 p.m. Saturday. One of them wore a dark ski mask; the other had his face covered with a T-shirt. At least one of them had a gun and yelled, “This is a robbery, everybody get down.”

Also inside the store at the time was a 24-year-old Mt. Juliet man who was carrying a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol pursuant to a handgun carry permit. The citizen, in defense of himself and others, opened fire on the robbers. Both ran from the store. Hogan collapsed in the parking lot as the result of gunshot wounds. A ski mask was on the ground next to him. He was transported to Skyline Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Detectives believe Hogan and his accomplice drove from Memphis to Nashville earlier in the day. Efforts continue to confirm the identity of the accomplice and locate him.
