FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 30, 2008

Specialized Investigations Division Narcotics Unit officers turned the tables on four unsuspecting would-be drug dealers who planned to rob a person they thought wanted to buy marijuana and Ecstasy pills.

Jamal Campbell, 25, of Mayer Lane, made arrangements to sell three pounds of marijuana and 100 Ecstasy pills to undercover officers Tuesday night. Campbell told the officers he and one other man would meet them in a white car at a business on Whites Creek Pike. But surveillance prior to the sting revealed Campbell was a passenger in a blue Buick Regal driven by 19-year-old Bradley Jones. Two other 19-year-old passengers Montez Johnson and Paul McQuiddy were also in the car. Jones, Johnson, and McQuiddy all reside in the 300 block of Kingview Drive.

The undercover officers called for assistance from North Precinct Patrol officers who stopped the suspect car. Officers recovered three handguns, five grams of cocaine, and three grams of marijuana from the Buick. During an interview with North Precinct detectives Campbell admitted he and the others had planned to rob the supposed drug buyer. All four are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony.

Campbell has past convictions for aggravated assault and felony cocaine possession. He is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond.

Johnson and Jones both pleaded guilty April 10 to unlawful weapon possession. They were charged following a January traffic stop for parking on the wrong side of the road. Both were in possession of handguns in that case. Johnson’s bond is set at $15,000 and Jones is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond.

McQuiddy is jailed on $35,000 bond.
