Metro Police patch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 9, 2008

Traffic around Percy Warner Park will be congested much of Saturday due to the 68th annual Iroquois Steeplechase, which is expected to attract 25,000 spectators.

General admission parking will be on Highway 100, with shuttles transporting patrons to the event.

To accommodate arriving traffic tomorrow morning, Old Hickory Boulevard will be closed to eastbound traffic at Vaughn Road beginning at 9:30 a.m.

From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Old Hickory Boulevard will be reopened to two-way traffic.

At 4 p.m., Old Hickory Boulevard will be closed to westbound traffic at Hillsboro Road. In addition, Old Hickory Boulevard southbound will be closed from Highway 100. The roads will be fully reopened once the heavy traffic has dispersed.

Persons attending the Steeplechase are strongly encouraged not to drink and drive. Seven Metro police officers, working extra-duty through a grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office, will be watching closely for impaired/intoxicated drivers in the vicinity of Percy Warner Park and West Nashville between the hours of 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
