A Safer City

- While Nashville has grown steadily in recent years, the city has become a safer place. The city’s overall crime rate is the lowest since 1989.
- As of September 2007, homicides in Nashville are down 27% from last year.
- Burglary in Nashville is at levels of the late 1960's and early 1970's.
Advanced Technology for Better Police Work

- Laptop computers in every patrol car enable officers to run record checks and retrieve mugshots in the field.
- A new Automated Records Management System enhances efficiency across the department by allowing the quick sharing of records and information in a way never before possible.
- A new state-of-the-art Automated Fingerprint Identification System was installed in 2005.
New Facilities Bring Police Services to Every Part of the City

- When the Hermitage Precinct was completed in 2001, it was the first major expansion of Police department facilities in nearly 13 years.
- North Precinct was added in 2004, giving citizens not only a police station, but also a community gathering place for public meetings and a satellite office for the County Clerk.
- Central Precinct was moved to the Nashville Arena, giving it better access to officers, residents, and tourists alike.
- The new state-of-the-art East Precinct opened in 2007 is six times the size of the old facility.
A Commitment to Recruiting and Keeping New Police Officers

- The pay for sworn Metro police officers has increased 41% since 1999 in order to keep pace with comparable cities that compete for recruits.
- More than 460 new officers have been sworn in since 1999.
