Registration Entering Final Phase for Shoney's ® 2009 5k Family Fun Run to Benefit the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department
Inaugural Fundraising Event by Shoney’s Guarantees Minimum Donation of $20,000 and $5 for Every Registrant to Jumpstart Nashville Police Fund
May 7, 2009, Nashville, Tennessee -- Shoney’s® today announced it is in the final stage of accepting registrations (click here to register: www.shoneys.com) for the Shoney’s 2009 5K Family Fun Run, the first ever family fun event of its kind benefiting the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. The race/event is June 6 from 7 a.m. to noon outside LP Field in downtown Nashville and will feature $1000 prizes for the top male and female runners.
Shoney’s will guarantee the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department a minimum donation of $20,000. In addition, Shoney’s chairman and chief executive officer David Davoudpour announced that the Nashville-based family restaurant company will pledge an additional $5 per registrant in the event, so the overall donation will be higher.
“Shoney’s is a responsible corporate citizen in the many communities where we have employed and served our neighbors for 62 years and we support the men and women in blue. This is especially true in Nashville, where Shoney’s is proudly based,” said Davoudpour. “Public safety and emergency preparedness are essential elements to Nashville’s economic growth and community well being. Shoney’s 2009 5K Family Fun Run is our way of giving back to those who protect and serve this great community.”
The event and the resulting Shoney’s donation will also spearhead the establishment of the Nashville Police Fund which will help officers offset the expense of earning college degrees, according to Nashville Police Chief Ronal Serpas.
“I am humbled by Shoney’s amazing generosity and strong desire to support the men and women of our police department,” said Chief Serpas. “Whether you walk or run, this will be a fun day for all visitors and citizens of Nashville and an annual event that will reward the police who protect and serve it.”

Registration fees: $20 until May 31; $25 from June 1 through June 5; $30 on race day
$10 for kids, military personnel and police; under 18 welcome with parent/guardian supervision; “Badges” will be given to all participating kids.

- Kids Fun Run: 7:45 a.m.
- 5K Run: 8:15 a.m.

- 1st place: $1000($500 cash & $500 Shoney’s gift card)

There will be a fun festival and kid’s zone with FREE activities for the kids that will include a healthy eating and activity table staffed by Vanderbilt Medical Staff; face painting, balloon artists, games, an appearance by Shoney Bear®, a police cruiser, members of The Nashville Police S.W.A.T. Team, the Nashville Police Bomb Team and their Bomb Robot, a Police Helicopter & much more.
Restrictions: For safety purposes, jogging strollers are the only wheels allowed for the run. Unfortunately, no pets are allowed.
